Priority Program Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have previously submitted a housing application?
If you have previously submitted a housing application and wish to participate in the Faculty Housing Priority Program, please contact La Jolla del Sol Apartments.
What is the difference between the Faculty Housing Priority Program (FHPP) and the regular Housing program?
La Jolla del Sol makes housing available to faculty and staff through the Housing application process. Housing is offered based on the date the applicant applies for housing and availability of apartment type(s) that he or she is interested in. The average waiting period for an apartment is approximately 12–18 months. Participants in the Faculty Housing Priority Program bypass the Waiting List and are guaranteed priority access based on availability of apartments.
What happens if wish to move out?
You must sign and submit a 45-day Notice of Intent to Vacate form to the La Jolla Del Sol Apartments Office. Depending on the terms of the Rental Agreement you choose, there may be restrictions.
When do I start paying rent?
Rent begins on the start date of your Rental Agreement. Please note that your Rental Agreement start date and your arrival date may not be the same!
How long will I be allowed to stay in housing?
Current campus policy states that faculty members may remain in campus housing only 45 days beyond the terms of their employment.
May I choose specific types of apartments or specific apartments within the facility?
Yes and no. FHPP participants are housed based on their specific need date and preferences for apartment types, but are assigned based on availability.
Is it possible to transfer to another apartment within La Jolla Del Sol Apartments at a later time?
After moving in you may complete a new application and have your name placed on the traditional Waiting List. Priority access is not continuous and/or indefinite.
Will I need a UCSD parking permit for parking at the facility?
Yes, you will need a La Jolla Del Sol parking permit at no charge to park on-site, which will be issued at move-in, however, a UCSD parking permit is not required. The La Jolla del Sol Apartments are not part of the campus parking system. Please contact Transportation Services at 858.534.4223 for further information regarding on-campus parking.
Are there any furnishings in the apartment?
Each apartment contains carpeting, blinds, range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and a full-size washer and dryer. No other furnishings are included. The La Jolla Del Sol Apartment office is ready to assist you with any inquiries on rental furnishings if it is so needed.
Is there a place to store my furnishings if I ship them before my arrival?
Sorry, facilities are not available to store any items prior to your arrival.
May I keep pets?
You may keep up to two (2) cats (cats must remain indoors), caged birds, or fish in aquariums with less than 30 gallon capacity. A $250.00 pet deposit is required per pet. Sorry, no other animals are permitted in the apartment community.
